I finally did it, I finally launched my own paid iOS app: The Jar of Awesome – Remember every victory. It has taken me over 6 months to learn SwiftUI in my spare time to put this together. The idea came from Award winning author and podcast host Tim Ferriss blog
…Any time something really cool happened that I got excited about, to avoid my forgetting it next to immediately, because I tend to celebrate very briefly if at all, I should write it down on a slip of paper and put it in the top of this mason jar. And it really had a tremendous impact.
I kept it where I could see it, and it was a real mood elevator and emphasized the importance of appreciation if you want to have any real success, and I hate to use that word but it’s appropriate here. Because if you only have achievement and you never appreciate the small wins, or the big things for that matter, and they have no duration, then it’s a hollow victory if you could call it a victory at all…
– toand here’s a video of Tim talking about this very same concept
I really liked what Tim was saying there, I feel like I often need to reminders myself of how much I’ve done to get to where I am today, all the lessons I had. So I decided to make this in to an app, mainly for myself to get the benefits from, but also to see if I can do it, I would say the app is far from perfect, but I still believe in Reid Hoffman saying
If you’re not embarrassed by the first version of your product, you’ve launched too late
So here it is, the app itself.
Benefits of the app
Do you feel stuck sometimes? The truth is, we all get so caught up on our journeys, that we forget to notice our little daily accomplishments.
We don’t see the progress, we lose momentum, and, eventually, any hope of success. The aim of the app is a simple app that will encourage you to move forward with enviable consistency, by making your every win count. Log your small “victories” as they happen, so you have something to look back on and feel good about
After a while, you will start to notice the progress in different areas of your life. The little things, you normally forget.
Positive self-reflection will feed your daily motivation and keep you away from the feeling of stagnation.
How does it work?
- Whenever something positive happens, you write down the details of what happened, in as much details as you need to help you remember this moment.
- Select your victory type, this will help you sort through them later.
- Add to the app regularly, it doesn’t matter how small it feels, you have to get into the habit of appreciating your victories
- Come back to the app and scroll through your victories regularly, remind yourself of your past successes and know you can repeat them
