As a web developer, one of the biggest challenge is having far too many browsers to cater for. Recently I’ve had problems with showing certain vimeo videos off a wordpress site for older iOS devices.
I’ve checked on Vimeo’s support page for similar issues as well as other online resources but it all seem to say it should not work. To quote from Vimeo’s embed pop-up:
NEW! This is our new embed code which supports iPad, iPhone, Flash and beyond. Don’t like change? Use the old embed code instead.
So, naturally I thought it’s something my end. First I thought it was having problems with HTML5video plugins, but only after 2 hours of code stripping did i realise the reason.
Only HD videos can be embedded and viewed on all iOS devices.
Now I’ve got to ask my client to get a PLUS account and upload all 20 of their videos again…. Fantastic!
On a side note: You got to give Vimeo credit for the range of error messages. Here’s a few:
- !Ay caramba! (With an upside down explanation mark at the front)
- Aw shucks.
- Boo-hoo!
- Blast!
- ACK!
- Aw fiddlesticks!
